Dipping a warm nozzle into anti-stick gel leaves a film that spatter does not bond to, so what does stick can be knocked out. It buys time between cleanings rather than replacing them.
Too much gel finds its way into the gas stream and causes porosity, which is the usual reason a welder’s beads go bad shortly after a nozzle dip.
The questions welders ask
Is spray or gel better?
Gel stays on the nozzle; spray covers a wider area and is aimed at the workpiece as much as the torch. Spray near the joint has to be kept off the weld line entirely — the film that stops spatter sticking also stops the weld fusing.
