The best welding torch consumables for 2026

Most « the machine has stopped feeding properly » problems are a worn contact tip or a kinked liner. We cover contact tips and how to size them to the wire, gas nozzles, diffusers, and liners — including the compatibility question that catches everyone: which torch standard you own. Three families turn up on this page and none of their parts fit the others: MIG torches in the MB15 and MB25 patterns, TIG torches in the WP-9, 20 and 25 series, and air plasma torches of the AG-60 and SG-55 type.

What we recommend

STM Der Meisterladen MB25/250 wear parts set, M6, 0.8 mm

The three parts that wear on a MIG torch, in the size 0.8 mm (0.03 in) wire needs.

STM Der Meisterladen MB25/250 wear parts set, M6, 1.0 mm

The same set in 1.0 mm — because tips are diameter-specific and mismatching them jams the torch.

  6. YESWELDER MIG gun consumable kit with contact tips, nozzles and diffusers

    YESWELDER YW-100L-0.8

Twenty contact tips in one box for the commonest small MIG torch pattern in America — which is the quantity this hub’s buying tip actually asks for.

    EAN
    0768563619809
    • Twenty tips in one purchase, which is the only way the advice above becomes practical
    • Names the torch patterns it fits — Lincoln Magnum 100L, K530 series, Tweco Mini and #1
    • One wire size only — 0.030 in, 0.8 mm — so a change of wire means a different kit

  7. Five STARTECHWELD 45V43 TIG gas lens collet bodies

    STARTECHWELD ST-45V43

A five-pack of gas lens bodies that publishes the collet series and the cup range it works with — which is how TIG consumables are actually identified.

    Amazon reference
    B09CMTS9TZ
    EAN
    0818988015370
    • Publishes the part number, the tungsten size, the torch series, the collet series and the cup range
    • A gas lens rather than a plain collet body, which gives laminar shielding gas instead of turbulent
    • One tungsten size only: 1/16 in, so 0.040 in or 3/32 in work needs a different body

Best for: A WP-9, 20 or 25 torch running 1/16 in tungsten, where gas coverage matters more than anything else

    • Names five torch patterns it fits: AG-60, AG-60P, SG-55, WSD-60 and the BTC500DP head
    • No current rating on the nozzles — a plasma nozzle is sized by amperage, and the figure is absent

Best for: An AG-60 or SG-55 plasma torch, stocked for a season rather than a job

Choosing within torch parts, by need

Matching the torch to the wire used

The contact tip and the liner are sized for a precise wire diameter. A mismatch birdnests the wire or destabilizes the arc.

STM Der Meisterladen MB25/250 wear parts set, M6, 1.0 mm

Bringing a torch back into service

A tired torch is repaired part by part for a fraction of the price of a new one.

YESWELDER YW-100L-0.8

Finding the part months later

A torch is serviced for years, and its contact tip is changed every few hours of arc. References still in distribution beat an exotic torch whose consumables vanish.

Torch parts and who each one is for

Unstable arc
A worn contact tip is the first thing to check. It is the cheapest part and the one most often responsible.
Wire birdnesting
A fouled or unsuitable liner: a steel liner does not suit aluminum, which demands a PTFE liner.
Stuck spatter
A cup full of spatter disturbs the gas flow. An anti-spatter spray and regular cleaning are enough.

The trade-offs of torch parts

The torch maker’s consumable or a pattern one
Generic contact tips cost a fraction and have variable tolerances. On this part, the difference in quality is felt immediately.
Copper against alloys
Copper contact tips conduct best and go oval quickly; alloys last longer and conduct slightly less well.
Stock in advance against real need
A few contact tips and a spare cup avoid stopping a job. Beyond that, the parts sit unused.

What keeps coming up about torch parts

When should the contact tip be changed?

As soon as the arc turns unstable or the hole goes oval. It is the cheapest part and the one most often behind arc problems.

Why does my wire birdnest?

A fouled liner, badly set drive rolls, or a worn contact tip. Check those three before suspecting the machine.

Do I need a special liner for aluminum?

Yes, PTFE or equivalent. Aluminum wire is soft and drags in a steel liner until it birdnests.

How do I stop spatter sticking?

An anti-spatter spray or paste on the cup and contact tip. Cleaning the cup is also part of routine maintenance.

Is the thread standard?

It depends on the type of torch. Common torches follow market standards, but checking before buying is essential.

How do I clean the liner?

By removing it and blowing it through with compressed air, torch straightened out. A heavily fouled liner is replaced, not recovered.

Does the swan neck wear out?

It distorts with repeated bending and the wire path degrades. It is a spare part worth knowing about.

Should the nozzle be changed with the contact tip?

Not at the same rate: the tip wears inside, the nozzle loads up with spatter. You clean the nozzle every spool and replace it only when the mouth is deformed.

In short, on torch parts

The contact tip is the cheapest part and the one most often guilty of an unstable arc: change it before suspecting the machine. Aluminum wire demands a PTFE liner, and a heavily fouled liner is replaced rather than cleaned.

Torch parts, side by side

There is no table here, and the reason is in the listings. The figure published most often across these 11 products is contents, given by 5 of them — short of the four in five a column needs to compare rather than to display gaps. Each product page says what its own maker published.
