The best TIG welders for 2026

TIG gives you the cleanest bead and the slowest learning curve. The dividing line in this category is simple and expensive: DC only, or AC/DC. Without alternating current you cannot weld aluminum, and no accessory changes that. We compare arc start, low-amp stability, pulse and pedal support.

The models we recommend

  1. IPOTOOLS INV185PACDC

    180 A AC/DC · 32-bit control · 7-year warranty · €380

A fully digital AC/DC machine with adjustable pulse, from an importer that publishes an address and a seven-year term.

Best for: Someone who wants aluminum capability and an importer who answers letters

    7.8/10

  2. IPOTOOLS TIG-200ACDC

    200 A AC/DC · AC frequency 20–100 Hz · spot 0.01–9.99 s · €459

The first machine on this page that publishes its AC frequency range and pulse frequencies — the controls aluminum actually needs.

Best for: Aluminum work where the arc has to be steered, not just switched on

    7.8/10

  3. WELDINGER WE 200P ACDC eco

    10–200 A TIG · 10–170 A MMA · 9.5 kg (20.9 lb) · €460

The only machine here that publishes a current range starting at 10 A — and the lightest AC/DC on the page at 9.5 kg (20.9 lb).

Best for: Thin stainless and aluminum, and anyone who has to carry the machine upstairs

    7.8/10

  4. IPOTOOLS SUPERTIG 200DI

    200 A AC/DC · fully digital · 7-year warranty · €570

The top of this page: a fully digital 200 A AC/DC machine with stick as well, and seven years behind it.

Best for: Regular aluminum and stainless work, where the machine has to be right rather than adequate

    8.4/10

Choosing within TIG welders, by need

Welding thick and varied

The available current governs the accessible thickness and, on an AC machine, the ability to handle aluminum.

IPOTOOLS SUPERTIG 200DI

Working very thin material

On thin stainless, what counts is the ability to go very low in current without the arc going out.

S SIMDER TIG200 (140 A DC)

Welding a long while without the set cutting out

The duty cycle says how many minutes in ten the set holds its rated current. On a long assembly bead, that figure decides, not the maximum amperage.

TIG welders and who each one is for

Stainless and visible beads
This is TIG’s domain: the bead is the cleanest of any process and often needs no reworking.
Aluminum
Aluminum demands alternating current, which breaks the oxide layer. A DC-only TIG machine will not weld it.
First TIG beads on thin steel
TIG demands coordinating torch, filler rod and pedal. It is the most demanding process and the most rewarding.

The trade-offs of TIG welders

Bead quality against speed
TIG gives the finest result and advances markedly more slowly than MIG. Over a long run the difference in time is considerable.
DC against AC
DC is enough for steel and stainless; AC is essential for aluminum and costs more. It is the structural choice in this aisle.
High-frequency start against scratch start
High-frequency starting begins without touching the work and does not contaminate the electrode. Scratch start costs less and dirties the tungsten at every start.

What keeps coming up about TIG welders

Do I need an AC machine?

Only for aluminum and magnesium. For steel and stainless, DC is enough and costs less.

What is the pedal for?

Modulating the current while welding, which lets you manage the heat in the workpiece. It is what makes TIG precise.

Why does my electrode get dirty?

It has touched the pool or the filler rod. It then has to be re-ground: a contaminated electrode gives an erratic arc.

How do I grind tungsten?

To a point, with the grinding marks running lengthways. Transverse marks make the arc wander.

Which gas for TIG?

Pure argon in almost every case. Specific mixes exist for particular uses.

Do I need back purging on stainless?

On tubes and parts where the back face matters, yes: without protection the reverse side oxidizes and becomes brittle.

Can I weld without filler?

Yes, autogenously on well-fitted edges. That is what gives the most discreet beads.

Is TIG more dangerous?

The TIG arc emits a great deal of ultraviolet, felt more on exposed skin. Covering arms and neck is not optional.

In short, on TIG welders

Alternating current is what separates a machine that welds aluminum from one that never will: it is the structural choice. TIG gives the finest bead and advances slowly, and its arc burns exposed skin more than any other.

TIG welders at a glance

  • Warranty: 5 to 7, on 4 of the 10 models.
  • Highest figure for current: WELDINGER WE 202P DC (200 A).

TIG welders, side by side

Four sets in five must state the figure before a column appears. A half-empty column manufactures false gaps.
