Where we come out Forty dollars for a display, arc force and a suggested setting — worth it in your first year, less so after.
The ARC 200 MD Digital is the plain ARC 200 MD with electronics on the front, at €140 instead of €100. What the extra buys is unusual enough to be worth the page: the machine tells you what current to use.
The reference-current function
Set the material thickness — the listing states the function covers up to 10 mm (0.39 in) — and the machine proposes a welding current. That is a beginner’s tool in the best sense. The relationship between rod diameter, plate thickness and amperage is the first thing a welding course teaches and the last thing a self-taught welder gets right, and the two failure modes are unmistakable: too low and the electrode sticks while the bead sits proud without fusing; too high and you cut through the edges of the joint.
A proposed setting does not weld the joint for you. It stops the first evening being spent finding the window.
Arc force
Also listed here and absent from the cheaper machines on this page. Arc force watches the arc length: when you push the electrode into a corner and the arc shortens, it adds current for an instant so the rod does not stall and stick. On vertical fillets, where pushing in is exactly what you do, it is the difference between a continuous bead and a series of restarts.
Same TIG path
Like its plainer sibling, it accepts the optional WP-17V valve torch and becomes a DC lift-TIG machine — steel, stainless and copper, no aluminum, manual gas.

The questions welders ask
How useful is a suggested current, really?
For a first year, very. The relationship between electrode diameter, material thickness and current is learnable but not obvious, and getting it wrong produces the two classic failures: too little current and the rod sticks and the bead sits on the surface; too much and you burn through and undercut the edges. A machine that proposes a starting point removes the worst of that, and you adjust from there rather than from nothing.
What does arc force add over hot start?
They act at different moments. Hot start helps the electrode light. Arc force helps once you are welding: as you push the rod into a joint the arc shortens, and without compensation it stalls and the rod sticks. Arc force senses that and adds current for an instant. On vertical and fillet welds — where you naturally push in — it is the difference between a bead and a repair.
