The off switch is the product

Holding force is easy to buy; releasing it cleanly is not. A switchable magnet solves the removal problem that limits how strong a fixed magnet can usefully be.

Still not a clamp

Even at this force, the rule holds: position with magnets, tack, then clamp mechanically before running a bead. A cooling weld pulls harder than any magnet in this category.

The questions welders ask

How does an on/off magnet work?

Two magnets rotate relative to one another inside the housing. In one position their fields combine and exit through the base; rotated, they cancel each other internally and almost nothing reaches the surface. It is entirely mechanical — no power, no battery, and no gradual loss of grip.

Is it worth ten times a fixed magnet set?

If you fabricate regularly, yes, for two reasons: the holding force is in a different class, and you can remove it instantly with one hand while everything is hot. Fixed magnets strong enough to hold heavy section are genuinely difficult to prise off a plate — which is where people burn themselves.
