The arithmetic

Two spools at €43 against one at €27: roughly €21.50 per spool instead of €27, a saving near twenty per cent. Real, and only if the second spool welds rather than rusts.

One decision, not two

Buying bulk is a bet on your own workshop hours. Most people overestimate them. If you are unsure, the single spool is on this page too, and the saving forgone is €5.50.

The questions welders ask

Is bulk wire a false economy?

It depends entirely on how fast you use it. Wire does not spoil in a sealed bag; it corrodes once opened in a damp workshop, and a lightly rusted spool feeds erratically and gives porous welds. If ten kilograms will last you three years, buy five and keep it dry — the saving is smaller than the spool you will eventually throw away.

Does the second spool need special storage?

Keep it sealed until it is needed, ideally with the desiccant it shipped with, and not on a concrete floor — concrete wicks moisture. An airtight box with a fresh desiccant sachet costs a few dollars and preserves the value of the bulk purchase.
