Stamos Welding Group S-PLASMA 125CNC review

A machine bought to be bolted to a table, not held in a hand — and the cheapest route to a CNC plasma bed here.

Where we come out Excellent value if you are building a table, and the wrong machine entirely if you are not.

A hundred and twenty-five amps and 34 mm (1.34 in) of cut depth, for €699 — less than the 80 A hand machine above it. The catch is not hidden: it comes with a CNC torch.

Why it is cheap for its current

A hand-held plasma cutter carries a torch designed to be held, triggered and dragged along a line, with a handle, a switch, a guide and the ergonomics that go with them. This one carries a straight machine torch made to be clamped into a gantry head, with height and travel controlled by the table and the arc started by a signal.

That is a real difference in what you can do on the day it arrives, and it is why the price per amp looks unusual.

What 125 A brings

Thirty-four millimeters of cut depth, which is beyond every other machine here — the 80 A STAHLWERK quotes 25 mm (0.98 in) — and pilot ignition that will cross grating. At this current, three things become planning items rather than details: the electrical supply, the compressor, and fume extraction. Plasma cutting at 125 A over a water table or a downdraft bed is not the same room as a hand cutter on a bench.

Who should buy it

Someone building or already running a CNC plasma table, or a shop that needs plate thicker than a hand machine will take. Everyone else should look at the 70 to 85 A machines above: same job, torch you can hold.

Current, cut depth, torch type and ignition come from the manufacturer’s published specification. No duty cycle is stated there, and none is invented here. Market availability was verified per market on the EAN.

What it handles, and what it will not

Strengths

  • A CNC torch and interface at the price hand-held machines charge for 70 A
  • 125 A and 34 mm (1.34 in) put it beyond anything else on this page
  • Live on all six markets under one reference

Compromises

  • The torch is for a machine table — this is not the cutter to buy for hand work
  • 125 A means a supply, a compressor and an extraction plan, all of them serious
  • No duty cycle published

The questions welders ask

What makes a CNC torch different?

It is a straight barrel designed to be clamped in a machine head, without a handle or a trigger — the height and the travel are controlled by the table, and the arc is started by a signal rather than a switch. That is why this machine is cheap for its current: it is not sold with the hand-cutting ergonomics that make up much of a portable cutter’s cost.

Can I use it by hand?

Not as supplied, and a hand torch is not a small accessory. If hand cutting is what you need, the 70 to 85 A machines on this page are the ones to look at. Buy this because you are building or feeding a table, not because the amperage is the highest here.
