Of the five combination drill-tap sets on this shelf, this is the one whose contents are what the title says: thirteen pieces, being six SAE sizes from 6-32 to 1/4-20, six metric from M3 to M10, and a quick-change adapter. On a shelf where another set describes twelve sizes in a six-piece box, that is worth stating first.

Covering both thread systems is the real argument. A workshop does not choose what arrives on a bracket or a gearbox, and a set with only imperial sizes will meet an M6 hole eventually. Having both in one case, with an adapter that stays in the chuck so the bits snap in and out, is the practical version of this tool rather than the cheap one.

The construction is stated plainly as high speed steel, with a 1/4 in hex shank and a tapered end to prevent over-tapping. What is missing, compared with the sets at half the price, is any surface treatment: no titanium coating, no nitriding. And the materials named are sheet metal, plastic and copper — mild steel is not among them, which on a site about metalworking is the limit to read carefully.

The questions welders ask

Why does covering both systems matter?

Because a workshop does not get to choose. Machinery, fasteners and brackets arrive with whatever thread the maker used, and a set with only SAE sizes meets an M6 bolt sooner or later. Having 6-32 through 1/4-20 and M3 through M10 in one case removes the second purchase. On this shelf, one set claims both and lists twelve sizes under a title of six; this one claims thirteen pieces and delivers six, six and an adapter.

What does the quick-change adapter add?

Speed, and one less thing to lose. All these bits have a 1/4 in hex shank, so they can go straight into a drill chuck — but then changing size means opening and closing the chuck each time. A quick-change adapter stays in the chuck and the bits snap in and out of it, which on a job needing three sizes in a row is the difference between a minute and five. Two sets on this shelf include one.
