Old tools, new tables

The fixture-table standard is recent; good vices are not. An adapter is the cheapest way to reconcile the two, and it keeps a tool that is often better than its replacement.

Why adapt rather than replace?

Because a good bench vice outlives several workshops. HEUER vices in particular are frequently forty years old and better made than most current products. An adapter puts that vice where the work is, instead of retiring it because the new table has a different mounting.

Does the extra height matter?

It raises the jaws above the table surface, which is usually what you want for welding access, and it does change your working height. If you weld seated or the table is already tall, check the combined height before ordering.
