Where we come out Buy it for threads and precision, not for capacity.
What the extra buys
Not size. A €718 machine on this page swings a larger workpiece. What this adds is the geared leadscrew for threading, taper turning, and the fit and finish of a maker that has served modelmakers for decades.
The materials list
Steel, brass and aluminum — named rather than implied. That is worth noting on a small machine, because a lathe that will only really cut brass and aluminum is a different tool from one specified for steel.

The questions welders ask
Why is thread cutting the dividing line?
Because it is the operation that lets you make a part rather than modify one. A lathe that turns and faces can make a spacer; a lathe that cuts threads can make a bolt, a spindle, an adaptor between two systems that were never meant to meet. It requires a leadscrew geared to the spindle, which is machinery a cheaper lathe does without.
Is 250 mm (9.84 in) enough?
For modelmaking, instrument work and small mechanical parts, yes. For repairing machinery — shafts, pins, long bushes — often not. The capacity is the honest limit of this class, and it is why the machine sits alongside larger, cheaper lathes on this page rather than above them.

12 V DC · lathe and mill in one · tool-height shims · soft metals only
A 12-volt combination mini lathe and mill that supplies shims to set the tool height — the one adjustment that decides whether a small lathe cuts or rubs.
Best for: Teaching turning and milling on one machine, in wood, plastic and pure copper or aluminum
7 in swing · 14 in centers · 2,500 rpm variable · reversible · DRO
The only real metal lathe in the American half of this hub — 7 by 14 inches, variable to 2,500 rpm, reversible for left-hand threads, with a digital readout and a cutter kit.
Best for: Turning steel parts on a bench, where the tooling has to come with the machine
