The V-jaw is the detail. A flat-faced clamp on round tube touches at a single tangent line and slides off as soon as the work moves; a V seats on two lines and stays. Turn a square tube 45 degrees and the same V beds against two faces, which is why this one clamp covers both — and Monster & Master says so, down to the awkward case of a triangular section meeting a square one.

The sizes are published as sizes rather than as a range: 1, 2 and 3 inches, round or square. On a frame that mixes section, that tells you in one line whether the clamp will seat on both halves of the joint, which a single capacity figure does not.

Construction is forged high carbon steel, sandblasted, with riveted reinforced joints at the pivot — the part that takes the multiplied load from the handle. Pressure is set with a thumbscrew rather than judged at the lever, which matters when the point is to hold a joint flush rather than to crush it. The limits are a three-inch ceiling, no published throat depth, and — as everywhere on this shelf — no clamping force.

The questions welders ask

Why does a V-jaw take square tube?

Because a V seats on two lines whatever the shape. On round tube the two faces of the V touch the curve at two points, which is why V-jaws exist; on square tube turned 45 degrees, the same V beds flat against two faces. A flat jaw does neither well — it sits on one tangent of a round tube and slides. Monster & Master states the mixed case directly, including "triangular tubes combined with square tubes", which is the joint most clamps simply cannot hold.

What do riveted joints change?

How the plier survives being overloaded. A locking plier multiplies hand force several times at the jaw, and the load goes through the pivot; a riveted, reinforced pivot spreads it where a spot weld concentrates it. The listing names rivets explicitly. What it does not publish, as nothing on this shelf does, is the force the jaw actually applies.
