Where we come out The cheapest serious entry to welding on this site, and the process that most repairs actually need.
Ninety dollars. That buys a 200 A IGBT stick inverter with hot start, an overheat cut-out and a digital display — and it is a genuinely useful machine rather than a novelty.
Stick is the outdoor process
MIG welding needs a gas shield, and any breeze pulls it off the pool. It also needs metal cleaned back to bright steel. Stick welding needs neither: the flux coating on the electrode makes its own shield as it burns and tolerates rust, paint and galvanizing far better than wire does. For repairs in a yard, on a trailer, on farm machinery — the work most people actually have — this is the correct process, not the cheap alternative to it.
What €90 gets you
Two hundred amps on paper, hot start, and thermal protection. Hot start matters more than the amperage: it lifts the current for an instant as you strike so the rod lights rather than welding itself to the plate. Anyone who has learnt stick welding on a machine without it will recognize the difference.
What is not published
No duty cycle at any temperature, and no arc force figure. The first means the 200 A should be read as a peak — expect short bursts near the top and comfortable work in the middle of the range. The second matters when you push the electrode into a tight joint and the arc shortens: arc force adds current to stop it stalling, and machines that do not mention it usually have a fixed, modest amount.
The reference travels
One product reference on the German, British, French, Italian and Spanish stores, verified on the EAN. At this price that is unusual, and it means the link in this page resolves wherever you read it in Europe.
Sources
Current, process, features, technology and part number come from the manufacturer’s published specification. No duty cycle is stated there, and none is invented here. Market availability was verified per market on the EAN.

What it handles, and what it will not
Strengths
Hot start, which is the feature that decides whether a beginner strikes an arc or glues an electrode to the plate
Nothing to go wrong: no gas, no wire feed, no liner
Compromises
No published duty cycle — assume brief bursts at the top of the range
No arc force stated, so pushing into a joint may stall the arc
One process only: no TIG, no wire

The questions welders ask
Why buy stick at all when MIG is easier?
Because MIG needs clean metal and still air. Stick electrodes carry a flux that burns through rust, paint and mill scale, and there is no gas shield to be blown away. For a gate hinge in a yard, a trailer chassis or a farm repair, stick is the process that works, and it is the cheapest one to own.
What does hot start do?
It briefly raises the current at the moment you strike, so the electrode lights instead of sticking. Cold starting is where beginners lose their patience — the rod welds itself to the plate, you break it off, the coating chips, and the next start is worse. It is the single most useful feature at this price.
