The convenience is real

Changing a disc with a pin wrench takes half a minute and a wrench you can lose; X-LOCK takes a second and no tool. On a machine that changes between cutting and flap discs constantly, that removes the reason to leave the wrong disc fitted.

The lock-in is real too

The system is Bosch-led and adopted by several makers, but it is narrower than the universal 22.23 mm (0.88 in) bore standard. Buying into it means checking compatibility for every future purchase.

The questions welders ask

Will X-LOCK discs fit my grinder?

Only if the grinder has an X-LOCK mount — it is a different spindle interface, not an adaptor. Standard grinders use an M14 thread with a backing flange and a nut; X-LOCK replaces that with a clip. Discs for one do not fit the other, and this is the first thing to check before ordering.

Why does « iron-free » matter for stainless?

Because ordinary abrasive discs shed iron particles that embed in the stainless surface and then rust, leaving brown speckles on a surface bought precisely to avoid them. Discs marked free of iron, sulfur and chlorine are the ones to use on stainless — and a disc used on mild steel should never be used on stainless afterwards.
