Where we come out The heavy-duty choice at €100, with the same missing safety features as everything below it.
A hundred dollars, 1,400 W, constant electronics and a soft start. It sits eleven euros above the Metabo of the same power and trades one convenience for one safety feature.
Soft start against quick change
The Metabo WEQ 1400-125 changes discs without a wrench and does not list a soft start. This Bosch lists soft start and keeps the wrench. Both matter, in different ways: the quick-change nut removes a reason to use the wrong disc; the soft start removes the twist that a 1,400 W machine delivers to your wrist at switch-on.
If you had to pick on safety alone, soft start wins narrowly — the reaction torque of a big grinder starting instantly is what pulls it off a workpiece.
Cooling as a specification
Bosch publishes optimized motor cooling for sustained high load. That is a durability claim about the temperature the windings see during long cuts, and it is the sort of thing that never shows in a review and shows very clearly in year three.
The gap that remains
No brake, no restart protection, no kickback detection — on a 1,400 W machine. Everything under €200 on this page shares that, and it is worth knowing before choosing on wattage.

The questions welders ask
Metabo or Bosch at this power?
The Metabo WEQ 1400-125 is €11 cheaper and changes discs without a wrench; this Bosch adds a soft start and publishes its cooling design. If you switch discs constantly, take the Metabo. If the machine spends long spells buried in a cut, the Bosch is specified for that. Neither has a brake — which is the more important gap in both.
What does « optimized cooling » mean in practice?
Airflow arranged so the windings stay below the temperature at which insulation degrades, during continuous work rather than in bursts. It is the difference between a grinder that gets hot and one that gets too hot — the second cooks its own windings over a season of heavy use, and no feature list makes that visible until it happens.
