Where we come out The right small grinder, and it has none of the three safety features that matter most.
Forty-six euros for a Bosch Professional machine. What it buys is ergonomics rather than power: a 176 mm (6.93 in) grip circumference and a flat gear head.
Two specifications worth reading
A grinder twists in the hand under load, and the only thing resisting that is your grip. A slim body lets a hand close properly around it — which is why Bosch prints the figure and why it matters more than the wattage on a machine used in short bursts.
The flat gear head does the other half: it lets the disc reach into a corner or under a flange where a taller head fouls. On repair work, that is often the difference between grinding a weld and taking the assembly apart.
What it does not have
No brake, so the disc free-spins for several seconds after you release the switch. No restart protection, so a machine left switched on will start by itself when power returns. No kickback detection. Those three appear further down this page, on machines from €70 upwards, and they are the reason the price ladder here is worth climbing.
Where it fits
Dressing, deburring, light cutting, overhead work where weight and grip decide comfort. Not sustained cutting in heavy plate — 720 W slows in a deep cut, and a slowing grinder is one you lean on.

A 176 mm (6.93 in) grip — the specification that decides whether your hand aches after an hour
Flat gear head reaches into corners that a bulbous head cannot
Compromises
No brake, no restart protection, no kickback cut-out

The questions welders ask
Does grip circumference really matter?
More than power, for most people. A grinder is held in one hand and its torque tries to twist out of it; a slim body lets you close your hand properly and control that. Bosch publishes 176 mm (6.93 in) here because it is a selling point — most machines do not publish it at all, and you discover the difference after twenty minutes of overhead work.
Is 720 W enough?
For dressing welds, deburring, cutting thin section and light work, yes. It is not enough for sustained cutting in 8 mm plate — the motor slows, the disc glazes, and you push harder, which is exactly the moment a grinder becomes dangerous. If cutting steel section is your daily work, the 1,400 W machines further down the page are the sensible choice.
