The two markings that matter

Maximum permitted speed and the expiry date, both printed on the label. The first must exceed your grinder’s no-load speed; the second is not decoration on a component that spins at 11,000 rpm.

Consumption is higher than people expect

A 1 mm (0.04 in) disc cuts perhaps twenty to thirty 30 mm (1.18 in) box sections before it is too small to be useful. Buying ten at a time is not extravagant — it is the normal rate of use.

Every figure above comes from the manufacturer’s published specification for this reference. Fields the listing does not publish are left out rather than estimated. Market availability was verified per market on the EAN.

The questions welders ask

How thin should a cutting disc be?

For general steel, 1.0 mm (0.04 in) is the modern default: it cuts faster, generates less heat and wastes less metal than the old 2.5 mm (0.10 in) discs. Thicker discs are more robust against side loads and last longer in rough hands. If you are cutting thin sheet or stainless, thinner is better; if you are cutting rebar on site, thicker survives.

Do discs really expire?

Yes, and the date is printed on the label. Resin-bonded abrasives absorb moisture over years and lose strength, which matters because the failure mode is a disc bursting at 11,000 rpm. Store them flat, dry and out of sunlight, and throw away anything that has been dropped hard.
