FLEX 2000 W 125 mm, with brake review

The only machine here that publishes how long its brake takes — 3.5 seconds — instead of just claiming to have one.

Where we come out The most complete safety specification on this page, and the only measurable one.

Two hundred and seventy-nine euros for 2,000 W — and the only entry on this page that gives its brake a number: standstill in 3.5 seconds.

A measured claim beats a listed feature

« With brake » appears on several machines. What matters is how long the disc keeps turning after you release the switch, and only FLEX publishes it. Three and a half seconds is the window between finishing a cut and the tool being safe to set down, and it replaces the five to ten seconds an unbraked machine takes.

That period is where accidents happen — not during the cut, but afterwards, when a still-spinning disc meets a bench, a cable or a leg.

Anti-kickback, and brushless

Kickback detection cuts the machine when the disc binds, in the same way as the Makita above. The brushless motor is a durability argument rather than a safety one: no brushes to wear or spark, cooler running, more hours per machine.

Who should not buy it

Anyone reaching for their first grinder. Two thousand watts through a 125 mm (4.92 in) disc is a professional’s tool, and the €70 to €100 machines on this page will do occasional work with less to hold on to. This one is for hours a day, every day — which is also the context in which a published brake time earns its price.

What it handles, and what it will not

Strengths

  • A published brake time — 3.5 s — which is a measurable claim rather than a word
  • Anti-kickback and a brushless motor, on the most powerful machine here
  • The brand that gave the tool its German nickname, and the spares to match

Compromises

  • €279, the most expensive grinder on this page
  • 2,000 W and 125 mm (4.92 in) is a professional combination, not a first grinder
  • Not sold on the American store at the time of checking

The questions welders ask

Why does a brake matter if you are careful?

Because the danger is not while you are cutting — it is the ten seconds afterwards. Release the switch on a machine without a brake and the disc keeps turning for five or more seconds, during which people put the tool down, reach for the workpiece, or let it hang beside a leg. A 3.5-second mechanical stop closes that window, and it is the reason brakes are mandatory on many professional sites.

What does a brushless motor add here?

Efficiency and life. There are no carbon brushes to wear, replace or throw sparks, so the motor runs cooler for the same output and survives more hours. On a machine expected to run daily it is a durability feature; on a grinder used twice a month it changes nothing you will ever notice.
