Güde MBS 1100 review

A band saw you can lift off its table and carry to the work — rare in a category built around mass.

Where we come out The portable option, and the least rigid. Both follow from the same design.

The trade it makes

Every other band saw on this page is heavy on purpose: mass is what keeps a blade tracking straight through a cut. This one gives up some of that to be liftable. That is a real capability — cutting a structure in place — bought with a real cost in rigidity on long cuts.

What is not published

No maximum cut in round or square section, which is the first figure most buyers want. Machines further down this page publish theirs; this listing does not, and we do not estimate it.

Sources

Every figure above comes from the manufacturer’s published specification for this reference. Fields the listing does not publish are left out rather than estimated. Market availability was verified per market on the EAN.

What it handles, and what it will not

Strengths

  • Portable: the saw comes off its table for cutting in place
  • €158, the cheapest band saw here
  • Band saws cut cool and quietly, unlike abrasive chop saws

Compromises

  • Light construction is the price of portability — less rigid than a fixed machine
  • No cutting capacity published in the listing
  • Not sold on the American store at the time of checking

The questions welders ask

Band saw or chop saw for cutting steel?

A band saw cuts cool, quietly and with almost no waste, at maybe a third of the speed. A chop saw is fast, hot and loud. If your work is repetitive stock cutting and noise is not an issue, the chop saw wins on time; if you cut indoors, near other people, or want an edge you can weld immediately, the band saw wins on everything else.

Why does portability matter here?

Because some cuts cannot come to the machine. A handrail already welded in place, a pipe in a plant room, a frame bolted to a floor — for those, a saw that lifts off its table and clamps to the work is the only tool that does the job without a grinder and a lot of sparks.
