Measure before you order

Band blade length is not adjustable. It is stamped on your existing blade or given in the manual, and a 1435 mm (56.5 in) blade will not fit a saw built for 1440 mm (56.7 in).

Different jobs, different blades

Keeping one blade for clean stock and another for rusty or unknown material is how a workshop keeps a good blade good. Sand, scale and hidden weld beads take teeth off instantly.

The questions welders ask

What is blade break-in and do I need it?

Yes, and it takes two minutes. A new blade’s teeth are sharp enough to bite too deeply, which chips them. Run the first two or three cuts at reduced feed pressure — light contact, let the saw take its time — and the tooth tips hone slightly. Blades broken in this way last markedly longer.

Why keep three blades?

Because a band saw with no spare gets treated gently and used badly: people run a blunt blade rather than stop work. Three blades — one fitted, one clean spare, one for dirty or unknown material — removes that.
