VEVOR BS-85 review

A vertical band saw — you move the work past the blade, which is a different tool from the horizontal ones here.

Where we come out The shape-cutting saw of this batch, in a group otherwise built for cutting bar to length.

A different tool, not a cheaper one

Everything else in this family clamps a bar and drops a blade through it. This one asks you to feed the work by hand past a standing blade, which is what makes curves and internal shapes possible and what makes unattended cutting impossible.

What is missing from the sheet

No band speed range and no throat depth — the two numbers that define a vertical saw. The listing names materials and power instead, and we publish only what it publishes.

What it handles, and what it will not

Strengths

  • Vertical format: you can follow a line, cut curves and trim plate
  • 1,000 W, the most powerful band saw under €400 here
  • Handles plastics and non-ferrous as well as steel

Compromises

  • A vertical saw cannot be left to cut a bar on its own, unlike a horizontal one
  • No cutting capacity or band speed published
  • Not sold on the American store at the time of checking

The questions welders ask

Vertical or horizontal?

They do different jobs. A horizontal saw clamps a bar in a vice and lowers the blade through it — you can walk away mid-cut. A vertical saw holds the blade still and you push the workpiece past it, which lets you follow a curved line, cut a shape out of plate, or trim a bracket. Most workshops eventually want both; if you only cut stock to length, buy horizontal.

Can it really cut wood and plastic too?

With the right band and the right speed, yes — the maker lists both. In practice the limit is speed: wood wants a far faster band than steel, and a machine set for metal will burn rather than cut. Check the speed range before assuming one saw covers both jobs.
