The other end of the pitch range

Where 6–10 TPI is for solid bar, 14/18 is for thin wall. Owning both is the practical answer for a workshop that cuts mixed stock.

Thin backing, small wheels

A 0.65 mm (0.03 in) blade is the right thickness for the small-wheel saws in this site’s band saw pages. On a large machine it would flutter.

The questions welders ask

Can a fine blade cut thick bar if I am patient?

Not really — it clogs. Fine teeth have small gullets, and a thick cut generates more chip than they can carry out. The chips pack, the teeth stop cutting and start rubbing, and the blade overheats and blunts. Patience does not help; pitch does.

Why is this blade thinner at 0.65 mm (0.03 in)?

Because it is intended for smaller saws with smaller wheels. A thick blade forced around a tight wheel radius fatigues and cracks at the weld. Matching blade thickness to wheel diameter is part of choosing a blade, and the saw’s manual will state the range.
