Where we come out The most sensible €72 here: mass, light, and a wheel set you can actually sharpen with.
Seventy-two euros buys a 400 W bench grinder on a grey cast iron base, with LED lights over both wheels and three wheels in the box.
Mass is the specification nobody advertises
A bench grinder tries to walk. The wheels are never perfectly balanced, the work pushes back, and a light pressed-steel machine buzzes across the bench and puts that vibration straight into the wheel face. The result is a rippled finish and wheels that wear out of round.
Cast iron damps it. The base is drilled so it bolts to the bench, which adds the bench’s mass to the machine’s — and that combination is what lets a cheap grinder produce a clean face.
The lights are not a gimmick
The shadow on a bench grinder always falls exactly where you are working, because your own hands and the guard cast it. Lights above both wheels remove the reason people tip the guard back or take it off.
Three wheels, one of them fine
Roughing wheel, finishing wheel and a sharpening stone. Most machines in this class ship two similar coarse wheels; having a finer stone means the machine can take an edge past shaping without a second setup.

What it handles, and what it will not
Strengths
Cast iron base: mass is what stops a bench grinder walking and chattering
Three wheels supplied, including a sharpening stone rather than two coarse wheels
LED lighting over the wheels, where the shadow always falls
Compromises
400 W, so still an intermittent-duty machine
Cast iron makes it heavy to move once mounted

The questions welders ask
Why does a cast iron base matter?
Mass absorbs vibration. A light pressed-steel grinder buzzes on the bench, and the vibration goes into the wheel face, which is why cheap machines leave a rippled finish and wear their wheels unevenly. Cast iron damps that, and the base being drilled for bolts means you can add the bench’s own mass to it.
Is a supplied sharpening stone useful?
More than a second coarse wheel. Most machines arrive with two grinding wheels of similar grit; a finer stone lets you take an edge past the shaping stage without moving to another machine. It will not replace a proper honing setup, and it removes one step from the process.
