Where the money goes

Not into the lens technology — the €30 Worker has True Color too. Into the shell, the headgear and the wearing experience, which is the part that decides whether the helmet is on your head when the arc strikes.

Compare against the IPOTOOLS

At €59, the LY800H publishes a 100 × 93 mm (3.94 × 3.66 in) viewing area. A large window changes how much you can see without moving your head, and it is one of the few helmet figures that is genuinely comparable.

The questions welders ask

Does helmet comfort really matter?

After an hour, more than anything else on the specification. Weight distribution, the headgear ratchet and the balance decide whether you nod the helmet down or take it off between tacks — and taking it off between tacks is how people catch arc flash from someone else’s work. A helmet you leave on is a safer helmet.

How do I judge a helmet without wearing it?

Look for the things that are stated: viewing area, optical class, switching time, and the number of arc sensors. Where none of those appear, you are buying on the brand and the shell. In this range that is a reasonable bet, and it is worth knowing you are making it.
