Settings people never change

Sensitivity and delay are set once and forgotten, usually at the factory value. A memory makes changing them worthwhile, which is the real argument: it is not that recalling is faster, it is that you start adjusting at all.

One thing to test on arrival

Set a low sensitivity and strike a low-amperage TIG arc. A cartridge that fails to trigger reliably at 20 A is a real fault, and it is the one that a job memory cannot compensate for.

The questions welders ask

What settings does a helmet actually have?

Shade number, sensitivity and delay. Shade must suit the current — roughly 9 to 10 for light MIG, 12 to 13 for high-current work. Sensitivity decides how faint an arc triggers the lens, which matters on low-amperage TIG. Delay sets how long the lens stays dark after the arc stops, so a hot pool does not flash you as it cools.

Is a memory worth €30 over the mid-range helmet?

If you switch processes often, it removes a small friction several times a day — and the alternative is leaving the helmet on a compromise setting, which is what most people do. If you weld one process at one current, it changes nothing at all.
