The case for spending here

Welding fume is a Group 1 carcinogen, and the exposure is cumulative rather than dramatic. For someone welding weekly for years, extraction is the purchase with the longest payback and the least visible benefit — which is exactly why it gets postponed.

What to ask before buying

Airflow at the nozzle and filter replacement cost. Neither appears in the listing, and both decide whether the unit protects you and what it costs to keep doing so.

Why is the arm the important part?

Because capture depends on getting the nozzle within a few hundred millimeters of the arc and keeping it there. A hose that flops away from the work is not extraction; an arm that holds its position lets you place it once per weld and forget it. It is the mechanical difference between a device that works and one that is switched on.

What is missing from the specification?

Airflow, in m³/h. Three hundred watts describes the motor, not the capture. The cheaper VEVOR on this page publishes 180 m (591 ft)³/h, which is comparable; this listing gives no equivalent figure, and we do not estimate one.
