The useful test for a kit like this is whether its own numbers agree, and this one’s do: eight back caps, twenty collets, twenty gas lens collet bodies, twenty alumina cups — sixty-eight, which is the number in the title. Every piece is given with a 10N part number and in both metric and imperial size, so the contents can be checked against a parts diagram before ordering rather than counted after.

The coverage is sensible. Three tungsten sizes, 1/16, 3/32 and 1/8 in, in both collets and bodies, so a change of electrode diameter does not mean a change of kit. Long and short back caps, four of each, because the short one is what gets a torch into a corner. Cups from #4 to #7 in graduated quantities — two, five, six and more — which is roughly how often each size is actually reached for.

Two gaps worth knowing. Every collet body here is a gas lens, which is the better shielding but uses more argon than a plain body on simple work, and there are no plain bodies in the box. And there are no glass cups, where the Zinger and TIANLYLIN kits on this shelf include them. As with every kit on this shelf, no tungsten is supplied — that is the European half of this hub, where three packs of WC20 and WL-15 electrodes are published.

The questions welders ask

How do I check a kit like this before buying?

Add up the contents bullet and compare it with the title. This one lists 8 back caps, 20 collets, 20 collet bodies and 20 cups, which is 68, and the title says 68. On this shelf the RIVERWELD kit does the same at 63 pieces and the small Alffun kit fails the test, listing fourteen under a title of seventeen. A listing whose own arithmetic holds has at least been read by someone.

Why twenty collets and twenty bodies?

Because they are the parts that get contaminated. Touch the tungsten into the puddle and the contamination travels up; grind it on a wheel used for steel and it carries iron into the arc. Collets and bodies are cheap and are meant to be swapped rather than cleaned, and twenty of each across three sizes is a year of ordinary use. The quantities are graduated too, with more of the middle sizes, which is how the sizes are actually used.
