A consumable should be treated as one

The reason people weld with worn tips is that they only have one. Twenty pieces on the shelf changes the calculation entirely — and a fresh tip solves more arc problems than any adjustment.

The questions welders ask

Does contact tip quality actually vary?

Yes, in two ways that matter: the copper alloy (harder alloys hold their bore longer under arc heat) and the thread and bore finish (a rough bore drags on the wire). Cheap tips work and wear faster. At this price the sensible approach is to accept faster wear and change them more often, which is exactly what a 20-piece set allows.

Why five gas nozzles for so many tips?

Because that is roughly the wear ratio. A nozzle collects spatter and can be cleaned repeatedly before it cracks; a tip erodes internally and cannot be recovered. Any set weighted the other way is padding its piece count.
