Buy broad first, narrow later

The first months with a MIG machine involve trying wire diameters on different jobs. A three-size set removes the friction from that, and by the time it is empty you know which size to buy in bulk.

Keep the old tip

Take a worn tip with you, or measure it, before ordering replacements. Thread and length vary between torches that all claim MB25 fitment.

The questions welders ask

Will I ever use the 1.2 mm (0.05 in) tips?

Only if you run 1.2 mm (0.05 in) wire, which needs serious current — around 200 A and up, sustained. Most machines on this site cannot hold that, so on a hobby setup the 1.2 mm (0.05 in) tips will sit in the box. That is not a fault of the set; it is the reason a three-size set is a starter purchase rather than a stock item.

Is one thread standard enough?

M6 is the common thread on MB25 torches, and it is not universal — some torches use M8 or M6 × 25 mm (0.98 in) long tips rather than the standard length. Compare the old tip against the new before assuming; a tip that threads in but sits too deep changes the stick-out and the arc with it.
