  • States that the wire is copper coated, which no other listing on this shelf does
  • Names both shielding gas options and explains the consequence: higher currents are possible with 100 per cent CO2
  • No tensile figure, where one wire on this shelf publishes 490 MPa

Best for: A machine that runs 100 per cent CO2 at higher currents on sheet without burning through

Of the seven ER70S-6 wires on this shelf, this is the listing that explains what the classification means. The manganese and silicon in the wire are deoxidisers; carbon dioxide shielding releases oxygen in the arc; more deoxidiser means the wire tolerates straight CO2 and higher currents, which in turn means sheet can be welded hotter without burning through. That chain of reasoning appears on no other page here.

It is also the only listing to state that the wire is copper coated. On a steel MIG wire that is not a trivial detail: the copper flash reduces drag through the liner and carries the current into the wire at the contact tip, and poor coating is what makes a cheap spool feed badly and eat tips. Seven wires here share one classification and one of them mentions it.

The specification line at the end is unusually complete — 10 lb, 4.5 kg, 0.030 in, 0.8 mm — and both gas options are named. What is missing is a tensile figure, which one wire on this shelf publishes, and any basis for the claim to have “the highest combination of manganese and silicon deoxidizers”, which names nothing to be highest among. Its reference, ZY-GHM-DYYL-2-319, shares its prefix with a PGN wire on this shelf.

The questions welders ask

Why does copper coating matter?

Because it is what makes a steel wire feed. A copper flash on the surface reduces friction through the liner and the contact tip and improves the electrical contact at the tip — which is where the current actually enters the wire. A poorly coated wire drags, loads the liner with dust and wears tips out, and that is the difference most people feel between a cheap spool and a good one. Seven wires on this shelf share one classification and this is the only listing that mentions the coating at all.

What does "permitting higher welding currents with 100% CO2" mean?

That the deoxidisers let you run hotter without ruining the weld. Carbon dioxide breaks down in the arc and releases oxygen, which attacks the weld pool; manganese and silicon in the wire mop it up. A wire with more of them tolerates the harsher CO2 atmosphere and higher currents, which the listing then connects to a practical result — welding sheet at higher current without burning through. That is the "-6" in ER70S-6 explained, which no other page here attempts.
